A light ecological footprint was paramount in the design of this residential development on the peninsula of Troia, an environmentally sensitive resort south of Lisbon. The resulting structures implement a number of sustainable solutions, including sun shading and a minimum of enclosed heated spaces, as well as “green” water collection and services. A connection to the natural environment is the intent of the design. The units are relatively secluded, and are clustered so that large tracts of land are left undeveloped to ensure that each unit has access to the waters of the lagoon by foot via the open landscape. Although many of the resorts of this region focus on summer beach vacations, the ecological focus of this resort, with its pedestrian orientation, bird watching and ecological living, is seen as suitable for year-round use, and is designed and marketed as such.
