Organized around an elevated park, a variety of public and private relationships arising between the outdoor spaces become the development\u2019s focal point. Dalian, known for its robust shipping industry, inspired the nautical imagery found on the building forms. A reclaimed site along the waterfront was chosen as the project\u2019s location, and the development\u2019s massing and materiality were conceived as a response to the water\u2019s edge. Reintroducing a natural setting completes the composition, softening the architecture\u2019s inherent rigidity and making the project a fluid outgrowth of its surrounding context. The two ends of the interior retail space are anchored by a retail tenant and an entertainment and food venue. The main mall is designed as a series of stacked, column-free serpentine balconies, interrupted only by the center court and diagonal bridges, promoting a highly interactive and dynamic shopping experience. The entire length of the mall is lit by indirect natural daylight.
