Additionally, it houses the world\u2019s largest food court, with nearly 7,700 seats. The AEON Rycom Mall covers five levels, with a 100-ton aquarium on the first level. The adjacent station has storage areas for carry-on luggage, rest areas, and places for drivers to relax in \u201cbus waiting rooms.\u201d The 2nd floor has both AEON Rycom and restaurants, with Rycom Gourmet World on the 3rd and 4th floors. A Food Street is also on the 4th floor, and one floor up is Rycom Sky Diner. Every form and crease in the structure\u2019s skin creates a strong symbiotic relationship with the movements of the public as they circulate within. The towers complete the design, providing a punctuated end to the sweeping form of the commercial and retail base. Nestled into a hillside of the small town of Sao Jo\u00e3o Da Madeira, this new retail center is the town\u2019s largest building. Because of its size, the challenge was to create a modern, unified design which was also responsive and friendly at a human scale. The retail flows along a single promenade beginning with a receiving plaza. The fa\u00e7ade is semi-transparent, opening shoppers to the urban environment. Outside, a sequence of intertwining landscaped stone terraces and stairs create a grand entrance, where the food courts expand onto this plaza, sheltered beneath a massive canopy. A bridge was needed to connect the supermarket and second level of the shopping center. Inspired by inhabited medieval bridges, the bridge of 8 Avenida is packed with small-scale retail. This core features an interior garden area for terrace-style eating, providing a touch of nature which attracts shoppers to the upper levels and the retail elements. The play of linear and curving facades makes for a continually changing spatial environment, creating a series of internal public spaces which have a unique character.
