A single concrete plane acts as the floors, walls, and ceilings, and enfolds a rectangular room that frames the panoramic view of the park. Exterior walls are painted white, enunciating and further expressing the dichotomy of the solid pavilion mass from its soft, natural park setting. Interior walls utilize the grain of the wood formwork, which is imprinted into the concrete during construction, helping to express a warmer quality inside the pavilion. The zigzag shape of the opening extends the flow of nature from the outside to the inside space. At around 13,000 square feet, the project respects the district\u2019s architectural vernacular by retaining carefully chosen industrial details. The loading dock gets new life, penetrating the main exhibition hall as an upward ramp to the first floor. The ramp space is half glass, half metal, announcing what awaits inside. The main gallery is painted pure white with epoxy paint, and the ceiling is perforated to let natural light in to the hall. Adjacent to the exhibition hall is an auxiliary gallery which holds audio-visual art. The curator\u2019s office and conference facilities are sited at the back of the site facing an alley, along with a couple of view rooms. With a NCAA-regulation-size basketball court, a fitness center, and a multipurpose room with access to a full kitchen, this facility now serves more of the pressing needs of the West Dallas community. The design is a balance between old and new, the pairing of the original simple brick building and a prominent, oval building clad in aluminum. The two are pulled together visually by an eighteen-foot butterfly canopy which draws visual attention to the existing mosaic murals on the West fa\u00e7ade; the shape of the new building pulls the visitor\u2019s eye back to the new courtyard and the twelve-foot tall front entry to the facility. Located on the south side of the villages of Liangxiang and Doudian, the site includes existing villages which will be redeveloped toward solving China\u2019s \u201cthree rural issues\u201d: agriculture, topography, and the local farming population. Through various phases, the project\u2019s role as a tourist destination will provide the Eco Valley Plan a vibrant means of achieving the development\u2019s goals. The project\u2019s key idea is to create a series of crisscrossing courtyards with a pedestrian path. Evocative of the local vineyards\u2019 rolling hills, an undulating roof covers a several large exhibition halls along the pathway. Experience Hall is the development\u2019s core, embodying the project\u2019s goals, with interactive activity space, restaurants and cafes. The Sales Center provides information and access to the 88 contemporary villas on sale nearby. To take advantage of the spectacular site, the building is composed of a series of six interlocking arms that cantilever out to frame views in each direction. The interior is organized around a central daylit courtyard that brings nature and sunlight into the building. The courtyard orients visitors as they travel through the building and creates a dynamic circulation path for exhibitions.
