As an expansion to a highly viable shopping center, the design of Iguatemi had to be carefully integrated with the elements that define the center, while providing an innovative solution that will ensure the viability of the center\u2019s brand for years to come. The solution was to create a loop by connecting the ends of the L-shape arrangement, thus forming a large central public garden. The garden is then enclosed and conditioned, but the design of the roof allows the court to take on an exterior feel as though being under a large Pergola. Carefully filtered natural daylight filters through the skylights and the continuous clerestory, accentuating the exterior feeling of the Garden Court. Located adjacent to the Garden Court and above the existing anchor store structure is a unique \u201crestaurant court\u201d that creates another exciting public space that breathes further life into the center.<\/p>\n

The resulting solution provides a sense of discovery with a sequence of experiences carefully linked together, which allow people to enjoy this project as one coherent story. In the way the design is undeniably present, but also gets out of its own way, the underlying concept could be called \u201czen.\u201d Some playful materials or interactive future technologies are introduced as well to provide a surprise. This \u201cnew face\u201d for Raffles City dramatically lifts its branding and its market edge.\r\n
