This project will feature lush vegetation and views overlooking Dian Lake and the river. It mixes an upscale residential development with an urban retail\/entertainment destination offering entertainment, shopping, live-work facilities, and a boutique hotel. Buildings of varying character and scale have been designed to give life to the eastern street fa\u00e7ade. To capture the river\u2019s stunning view and reduce the podium scale, there are a series of dining terraces between the food and beverage buildings. Each zone is a distinct experience with a variety of spaces inspired by European urban streets and plazas. Outdoor features include reflecting pools, abundant landscaping, and verandahs to take advantage of Kunming\u2019s temperate climate. These concepts engendered Medieval Island, Island Resort, and Tropical Paradise, approaches based on time-tested principles of good planning, blending humanist habitation with a vibrant retail environment. Thorough retail and city planning delivered a strategy that has proven very successful in the past. When the architecture finally emerges on stage, that robust strategy will be fulfilled. The newly coined design could be called \u201cretail tropical modernism\u201d\u2014an architecture of both place and pleasure \u2014 a contemporary reinterpretation of vernacular traditions, taking the best of both worlds.
