Situated on the outskirts of Goiania near the airport, Passieo Das Aguas uses a sloping site and existing creek to create dramatic vistas and soaring volumes in this largely single-story project. Set on a hot, humid site, Goiania\u2019s overarching theme of water cools the project, psychologically and physically. Water elements and a design vocabulary inspired by the nearby creek round out the \u201cParque das Aguas\u201d concept. The site topography allows for parking to be placed under the main retail level to maximize the site and allow for possible future expansions. The Cinema and Food court areas are placed on this lower level as well, creating a dramatic two level volume that flows out to the existing creek. This indoor\/outdoor space features spectacular views to the rolling hills of the region. At the heart of the development is a large public garden that takes advantage of the region\u2019s temperate climate, allowing the dining court to be enjoyed year-round. As important as the regionalism in the design, the need for expansion was also a major factor of the Campo Grande project. The overall intent of the structure from the very beginning of the design process focused around the need for the future addition of two levels, one below grade, and one at the third story. The solution was to create a loop by connecting the ends of the L-shape arrangement, thus forming a large central public garden. The garden is then enclosed and conditioned, but the design of the roof allows the court to take on an exterior feel as though being under a large Pergola. Carefully filtered natural daylight filters through the skylights and the continuous clerestory, accentuating the exterior feeling of the Garden Court. Located adjacent to the Garden Court and above the existing anchor store structure is a unique \u201crestaurant court\u201d that creates another exciting public space that breathes further life into the center. Manauara Shopping Center celebrates the natural beauty of the city and the Amazon. A large cluster of rainforest Buritisal palm trees shade the stunning outdoor food court. A grouping of 50-meter tall Castanheira trees provides a spectacular entrance for visitors. The dramatic meeting of the nearby Rio Negro and the Amazon River inspired the design of Manaus Mall. The two rivers come together but do not mix, creating a multicolored swirl for several kilometers. The Manaus Mall reflects this junction of two powerful rivers through the roof and interior design. Two slightly different colors, which come close to mixing, separate two sides of the interior. Similar to bird watching and forest lookout stations, outdoor dining terraces are immersed in the Amazonian environment. Because of its size, the challenge was to create a modern, unified design which was also responsive and friendly at a human scale. The retail flows along a single promenade beginning with a receiving plaza. The fa\u00e7ade is semi-transparent, opening shoppers to the urban environment. Outside, a sequence of intertwining landscaped stone terraces and stairs create a grand entrance, where the food courts expand onto this plaza, sheltered beneath a massive canopy. A bridge was needed to connect the supermarket and second level of the shopping center. Inspired by inhabited medieval bridges, the bridge of 8 Avenida is packed with small-scale retail.
