The exterior design of Wuhu Huaqiang Plaza is inspired by the flow of water and the energy of movement, with the linear shifting of the podium levels responding to the high speeds of the adjacent highway. By shifting the floor levels, the layering of the fa\u00e7ade breaks down the scale of the building and defines entrances, canopies, and display elements with a natural flow. An internal visual connection between floors is established by carving out three atrium openings in unique forms, which allows natural light from the fifth level to flow down into the spaces below. Horizontal cladding panels emphasize fluid motion by layering over translucent forms in a variety of widths and projections. Seven towers rise above the large retail podium, housing office, SoHo, and residential spaces. The key design motif derives from water in motion. This theme drives every aspect of the design from the bulkhead section to the skylight design. The space is dynamic and fluid, creating great interaction between people and architecture, and the circulation of human activity has been well planned through the dynamic interior space. This core features an interior garden area for terrace-style eating, providing a touch of nature which attracts shoppers to the upper levels and the retail elements. The play of linear and curving facades makes for a continually changing spatial environment, creating a series of internal public spaces which have a unique character. The normally blank fa\u00e7ades of a traditional department store are reinterpreted as glamorous glass and light lanterns. Horizontal surfaces are broken down via display light-boxes on every level, which float within larger structural elements, drawing attention from pedestrians below.
