Grandberry Center is a new development in Tokyo’s Machida section. Set on the city’s Tokyu Denen-tonshi train line, it was designed as a commerce and activity hub and meeting place for local residents and visitors. Tiered gardens and a waterfall meet visitors who then ascend the grand stair to a multi-level shopping scene with a grocery market, retail stores, and a cinema. With central parking, the retail village forms a simple, European-style loop. Open and covered plazas provide spaces for socializing, leisure and entertainment. A new park entrance transforms the natural slope into a dramatic stair, with the ground rising to create a green roof for a new restaurant at the park’s entrance. In addition to a new main promenade lined with cherry blossom trees, the landscape plan opens up spaces for a skate park, urban farm, sculpture garden, children’s playground, great lawn and library.
