Situated at the nexus of multiple thoroughfares, the design for the Coimbra Retail Park aims to reflect the visual complexity of the busy traffic through the use of color and form. Polychromatic panels, ranging in sizes that correspond to the volumes of the storefronts, can be interchanged in a number of ways to support different types of branding. At night, light is cast upon the panels as another means of activating the large planar surface. Conceived from the outset as an outdoor shopping district, the design decision to create large panels for branding and distinction gives retailers a quick and more cost-effective means to promote their business. Scaled deliberately to respond equally to the street and to the surrounding highways, the panels allow for a maximum amount of flexibility when it comes to interchanging and manipulating the position and images at any desired point.
