Londrina Retail Center
Londrina, Brazil102,000 m2
Designed 2009
Londrina, meaning “Little London” in Portuguese, was founded and named by British settlers. This project pays homage to the history of Londrina with stylized Union Jacks, a bold graphics treatment, and finely crafted interior details reminiscent of the angular British icon.
The concept for the 2-level, 2-phase Boulevard Shopping takes a whimsical interpretation of the history of Londrina, which was founded by British settlers and means ‘Little London’ in Portuguese. Stylized Union Jacks can be found throughout the shopping center, from the bold graphics treatment on the exterior to the finely crafted interior details reminiscent of the angular British icon.
The site presented a difficult challenge, with an immense grade difference between opposite ends of the site. Parking and additional levels of shopping make up the grade difference, along with elegantly terraced landscaping leading to the street level. Additionally, the shopping center is connected to a civic center through a heavily landscaped pedestrian promenade. The 2-level center will be constructed in two phases.
